Your skin is often the first thing people notice when they look at you – and that’s why you shouldn’t entrust it with anyone other than the very best dermatologist.

But how exactly do you find that exceptional dermatologist? How do you know when you’ve found someone who can help you get the complexion you’ve always wanted?

That’s where we’re here to help. Take a look at our five tips for choosing the best dermatologist!

5 Tips for Choosing Your Dermatologist

1. Check out independent reviews.

Dermatologists will likely have reviews on their websites but dig a little deeper to find testimonials that may not be so cherry-picked. Check their Facebook page (if they have one) and Google reviews to see what comes up. You may even want to ask for referrals, as real feedback from clients can give you a sense of what to expect from your dermatologist.

2. Get a dermatologist who specializes in your skin issue.

Whether you have acne breakouts or eczema – or you’re looking for a cosmetic dermatologist – it’s important to focus on finding a dermatologist who has experience with your particular skin issue. Look for the dermatologist’s portfolio on his or her website to see if they’ve treated skin issues similar to yours before.

3. Look at their credentials.

How well-trained is your dermatologist? Are they Board Certified in Dermatology? Or do they call themselves a dermatologist when they are not?  Where did they go to school? Have they completed any fellowships? The more experienced and trained your dermatologist, the more likely it is that they have a wide breadth of experience necessary to offer you diverse treatment options for your skin issue.

  4. Check to see if the dermatologist will actually treat you.

Some dermatologists may actually have a nurse practitioner or technician provide treatments, as opposed to the dermatologist. Find out if that may be the case for you; ideally, you’ll want your preferred dermatologist to actually treat you particularly when administering injections or evaluating your medical condition.  In the case of procedures like laser hair removal and peels, ask if the MD is present on sight to oversee the nurses and technicians who do those procedures..

5. Pay attention to how you feel.

You should work with a dermatologist who makes you feel comfortable. If you find that your dermatologist makes you feel unimportant or like another number, you may want to find a dermatologist who will treat you with the respect and care you deserve.

“Dr. Krauss has been my dermatologist for nearly two decades. Her level of knowledge in the most up to date cosmetic procedures is unsurpassed. I would not trust my skin care in the hands of another professional. My three young adults are patients of Dr. Wise and are just as satisfied.
Highly recommend Krauss Dermatology.” *
