Facial volume can have the effect of making us look younger and more attractive. Full, defined cheeks and soft, plump lips look healthy and vibrant. If you want to restore or enhance your facial features, dermal fillers can help. These injectable treatments address everything from deep creases to thin lips.

What are Dermal Fillers?

People have many reasons for adding volume to their facial features. Dermal fillers can address fine lines, deep creases, and even extremely fine lines around the mouth. They can also add volume and definition to the lips, cheeks, and jawline. Dermal fillers work for men and women, and ideal candidates range widely in age.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Whether you choose dermal fillers to replace volume loss or achieve a fuller, more defined look, dermal fillers come in a variety of formulations to meet your needs. How long dermal fillers last depends on several factors, especially how they are used. Fillers intended for use in areas like the cheeks have a denser, stronger formula, while those for the lips have a smooth, flexible formula. Fillers may last longer or not as long as the average, depending on your body’s reaction.

Juvederm®

Hyaluronic acid is the most popular dermal filler material in the world. It occurs naturally in your skin, where it boosts hydration. Juvederm® uses various formulas of this material to address areas like the cheeks, nasolabial folds, and lips. Some Juvederm® formulas last from six to twelve months, whereas Juvederm Voluma and Volux for cheeks and jawline can last up to two years.

Restylane®

This family of hyaluronic acid formulas also treats lines and wrinkles, volume loss, and thin lips. It includes some of the longest-lasting hyaluronic acid formulas. Restylane® fillers include Lyft, Refyne, Defyne, and Silk. The variety allows your dermatologist to choose the best formula for you. These formulas also last between six to eighteen months

RHA® Collection

The RHA® Collection of dermal fillers only recently became available in the USA. They more closely mimic the natural hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping them blend seamlessly and provide a natural look. They treat similar areas but integrate more smoothly with the skin. All RHA® Collection formulas last a year or longer

Is There Any Downtime With Dermal Fillers?

Dermal filler injections usually take twenty to thirty minutes. You can return to your usual activities with minimal downtime. Areas of redness or bruising are common. Some people also notice minor swelling or sensitivity. We encourage patients who get a bruise after treatment in our office to return the next day or two for a quick laser treatment to accelerate the disappearance of their bruising.  This way the discoloration can fade in a day or two instead of a week or two.  It is one of the many advantages of filler treatment at Krauss Dermatology.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Almost anyone makes a good candidate for dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your skin, making it an ideal filler material. Some of the best candidates for dermal fillers want to address issues like volume loss or wrinkles. Not all of our patients are seeking to look younger with their filler treatment.  Many candidates for dermal fillers are young people seeking natural-looking lip enhancement or improved facial definition.
