What is Dysport®?
Have you noticed that the frown lines between your brows, across your forehead or around your eyes have started to linger even when your face relaxes? Dysport® is an injectable way to treat these expression lines and wrinkles without surgery, letting you look refreshed and energized. Like Botox®, it is a version of botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin or neuromodulator that targets the facial muscles causing those creases.
How Does Dysport® Work for Lines and Wrinkles?
At Krauss Dermatology, Dysport® and other injectable treatments are administered by our board-certified dermatologists. The botulinum toxin works by preventing the targeted nerves from stimulating your facial muscles to contract. As these muscles relax, you will see your expression lines and wrinkles soften and become smoother. The effect is temporary, and the nerves and muscles can return to normal after Dysport® wears off, or you can keep them controlled with maintenance treatments.
How Long Does Dysport® Take to Work?
Each anti-aging neurotoxin takes a different length of time to become active. Dysport® is one of the quicker ones, with results beginning to appear in as little as two days. Your results will continue to develop for up to two weeks as the muscles fully relax.
Dysport® starts to work more quickly than Botox® because each has a different protein compound escorting the botulinum toxin to its destination. This difference also causes Dysport® to spread out more, so your dermatologist may choose this treatment for larger areas or to create a softer, more diffuse look. Once established, both products last three to four months or longer for most people.
Is There Any Downtime After Dysport®?
Injections like Dysport® are often known as “lunchtime procedures” because you can receive your injections in 15 minutes and return to work immediately. There is no downtime required, although you should avoid rubbing your face for the next few hours and hold off on exercising until the following day. Minor swelling will fade within a few hours, and occasional mild bruising may result and fade on its own. In the very rare event of a significant bruise, we can zap it with our vascular laser to make it go away quickly. Your dermatologist will provide other instructions.
Am I a Good Candidate for Dysport®?
Dysport® might be right for you if you want to address lines and wrinkles between the brows, around the eyes, or in the forehead area. Good candidates should be healthy and have realistic expectations. There is no ideal age to start anti-aging injections since they can treat existing wrinkles or protect new ones from continuing to develop. Dysport® may not be recommended if you have certain medical conditions causing muscle weakness such as myasthenia gravis.
