Have you noticed that your jaw looks less defined or your skin has more laxity? These signs of collagen loss happen naturally with age. However, you can reverse these effects with ultherapy. This non-invasive treatment restores lost collagen to restore the tightness and smoothness of youthful skin. Your Krauss Dermatology team has extensive experience providing skin tightening with ultherapy.

What is Ultherapy for Skin Tightening?

Ultherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the skin. It is FDA-cleared for lifting the skin on the face, neck, and underneath the chin. It can also improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the chest. Ultherapy works by stimulating the production of new collagen, tightening and firming your skin and the connective tissue layer underneath it. As a result, you can see noticeable improvements in the definition and contour of your neck and jawline.

How Does Ultherapy Work?

During ultherapy treatment, a handheld device delivers ultrasound energy to the skin’s deeper layers. The energy heats the tissues to a precise temperature at a specific controlled depth, triggering the body’s healing response. This response includes the production of new collagen, which gradually tightens and lifts the skin and tissue over time. The treatment typically takes about an hour, depending on the treatment area.  Inhaled nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen is used to make you comfortable during that time.

How Many Ultherapy Treatments Are Needed for Best Results?

The ultrasound energy used by ultherapy is extremely effective in triggering deep collagen production without harming the epidermis. As a result, most people only need one ultherapy treatment and have little to no recuperation time.

Some people may benefit from additional treatments a year or more later, depending on their skin’s laxity and the level of lift they hope to achieve. Your Krauss Dermatology provider will discuss your goals and recommend the appropriate number of treatments during your consultation. They will recommend alternatives if you have too much skin laxity for ultherapy to treat effectively.

How Long Do Ultherapy Skin Tightening Results Last?

Skin tightening after ultherapy results from increased collagen production. Results can last for several years. We recommend a maintenance treatment every two to three years if you want to keep your sculpted appearance. You can help your results last longer by using quality skincare products and protecting your skin from collagen-damaging sunlight.

Is There Any Downtime With Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy delivered at a controlled depth. You will not need downtime and can return to work or other activities after treatment. Most people notice minor redness and sensitivity that usually fade within a few hours. This lack of downtime helps ultherapy fit into even the busiest schedules. The nitrous oxide used for comfort resolves quickly and allows you to drive 20 minutes after the conclusion of the procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for Ultherapy?

Since ultherapy is non-invasive, most people can safely have this treatment. Good candidates have mild to moderate skin laxity around the jaw, neck, or chest and are preferably under 65 years old. People with significant skin laxity will usually not benefit from this treatment. Have you hesitated to try treatments like ultherapy because of your anxiety about discomfort? Pro-Nox is an inhaled gas mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen that relaxes you and keeps you from feeling discomfort without putting you to sleep.
