Aging, sun exposure, and acne scarring can leave their mark on your skin. If you want to have more smooth, even skin, laser treatments can help. At Krauss Dermatology, we match your laser treatment to your skin goals, so you achieve beautiful results

What are Laser Treatments?

Laser treatments use intense beams of light of a specific wavelength to target skin imperfections and trigger collagen development. Clear + Brilliant and Fraxel® are fractional lasers with 2 wavelengths of light. They create tiny areas of controlled damage surrounded by healthy skin. This micro-damage signals skin cells to increase collagen production, firming and smoothing the skin. It also stimulates cell turnover to shed dull, damaged layers and improves pigmentation.

The Vbeam laser targets blood vessels improving broken capillaries from sun damage or rosacea.  The Vbeam also improves redness in scars from surgery or acne.  The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacial uses pulses of light that target pigments in the skin.  Technically IPL is not a laser as it has multiple wavelengths of light in each pulse.  However the combination of different wavelengths allows this procedure to T fade hyperpigmentation, improve redness and broken capillaries, and stimulate collagen. The Diode laser for laser hair removal uses a unique wavelength to target pigmentation deep in the hair follicle to destroy unwanted hair permanently.

What are My Options for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

At Krauss Dermatology, we offer two fractional lasers as well as IPL so we can match them to your lifestyle and treatment goals.

Clear + Brilliant

The gentle Clear + Brilliant laser treats skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, sun damage, dullness, and enlarged pores. It makes an excellent option for almost anyone who wants to brighten and smooth skin with no recovery time and minimal discomfort. Most people need four to six treatments for maximum results. Clear and Brilliant treatments are performed by our laser nurse Amy.

Fraxel® Dual Laser

This more intensive laser treats pigmentation issues, acne scars, and fine lines with much less downtime than many other laser treatments. Fraxel® Dual Laser penetrates more deeply into the skin to trigger collagen production at multiple levels. You may need between two and five treatments depending on your skin concerns. Fraxel laser treatments are performed by our Board Certified Dermatologists.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial

This pulsed light treatment is highly effective in treating pigmentation issues. We use IPL for sun damage, redness, dull or uneven texture, and pigmentation on the face, decollete (chest), neck and back of hands. The light damages pigment and unwanted blood vessels without harming the surrounding skin. You may need three to five treatments.  IPL treatments are performed by our laser nurse Chris.

Vbeam Vascular Laser

The Vbeam laser is considered the golden standard for treating blood vessels, red scars, rosacea and even removing bruises (particularly post cosmetic injectable treatments).  It is extremely safe and effective with minimal downtime.  Vbeam treatments are performed by our Board Certified Dermatologists.

Laser Hair Removal Diode

Our excellent, fast diode laser for laser hair removal can treat small or large areas to remove hair permanently.  Our laser is best for light to medium skin tones.  Expect 4-6 treatments for best results.  LHR procedures are performed by our laser nurse Yvonne.

What is Recovery Like After Laser Treatments?

Patients must have NO TAN when being treated with lasers.  Having sun exposure within the weeks before treatment can cause unwanted side effects including burns in the treated areas.  Sun exposure after laser can cause long lasting discoloration.  Post procedure it is imperative to use sunscreen as well as hat and avoiding sun exposure for best results.

Redness and swelling may occur after any laser procedure.  The amount of recuperation depends on the laser used as well as the patient’s unique response.  In general Clear and Brilliant laser and IPL have minimal recuperation, Vbeam has some moderate swelling and redness in some patients but not all, and Fraxel has a longer recuperation time with up to a week of peeling.  Our excellent team or nurses and MDs will discuss what to expect prior to any treatment.

What Results Will I See With Laser Treatments?

Some results may take weeks to months to be visible and will improve over time. Results depend on the type of laser used, your goals, the settings of the device by your expert doctor or nurse.  Ask your dermatologist about maintenance treatments to keep your skin looking better and better.
