FDA-approved Ultherapy® uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the skin under the jaw and chin, around the neck, and in the décolletage area. For those wanting a way to correct moderate skin laxity around the jaw, chin, and neck area, Ultherapy® offers a non-surgical option with no recovery time. A single treatment is recommended, not a series as with other popular treatment modalities.
How Does Ultherapy® Work?
Ultherapy® uses ultrasound energy. Many people have seen ultrasound images, and like those images, this ultrasound can pass through the skin without causing any damage. With ultrasound, the operator can visualize the layers of tissue and make sure to direct the micro-focused energy into the correct level of tissue for maximum results.
Unlike laser methods that rely on light and cannot penetrate very far into the skin, ultrasound can reach deeper layers of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. There, it stimulates collagen production. Collagen, found in abundance in younger skin, declines as we age, but Ultherapy® can kick-start the process of collagen regeneration. This new collagen forms new structural support for the skin, making it tighter, firmer, and more lifted.
Because this treatment may feel uncomfortable, we offer a variety of options for managing your discomfort, including Pro-Nox. This nitrous oxide-oxygen mix keeps you comfortable but wears off immediately afterward so you can still drive yourself home.
How Much Does Ultherapy® Cost?
At Krauss Dermatology we recommend a full treatment to the lower face (under the cheek bones to jawline as well as the important area under the chin and jawline). This procedure costs $2300 in our practice. The full neck can be added for those who need tightening in that area as well. The combination of the lower face and full neck is $2800. Other areas can be treated such as the chest and decolletage as well as above the brows. Prices for these areas vary depending on whether they are performed at the same time as other areas and the size of the treated areas. Schedule a consultation at Krauss Dermatology for a more accurate estimate and treatment plan.
Am I a Good Candidate for Ultherapy®?
If you have moderate skin laxity around your neck, chin, and jaw, or if you want to treat wrinkles and sagging skin in the décolletage area, you may be a good candidate for Ultherapy®. Most candidates are in their 40s to mid 60s. People with very significant skin laxity may need a more intensive method of treatment to address their loose skin such as surgery.
Is There Any Downtime After Ultherapy®?
There is no downtime with Ultherapy so you can continue with your regular activities after treatment. There will be some irregular redness and raised bumps post treatment, particularly on the neck. Some people notice minor bruising that you can easily cover with makeup if required. Since the ultrasound energy causes no injury to the skin, your skin will not need any healing time, but you will still need to wear sunscreen and avoid sun exposure while the deeper levels of skin recover.
What Results Will I See From Ultherapy®?
After Ultherapy®, results develop gradually as collagen growth increases. Results take two or three months to become visible and may take up to six months to fully develop. However, because the tightening and lifting come from your body’s own natural collagen, results can last for years. Ultherapy turns back the clock but does not stop it!
I have been seeing Dr. Krauss for probably eight years and my boys all see other doctors in the practice. They are thorough, nice, timely, have a great staff, and really keep our skin looking great. If you are curious about cosmetic procedures they offer everything under the sun and never push you to do things. Highly recommended.
