What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers come in a variety of different materials. At Krauss Dermatology, we use hyaluronic acid fillers due to their effectiveness and safety. The skin uses hyaluronic acid to attract and lock in moisture, so the body recognizes and does not react to this material. When injected, dermal fillers add volume, which can lift the facial features or smooth out lines and wrinkles. Injections with HA fillers can stimulate collagen production over time, too – making it an easy treatment to keep up and maintain.  And to make us feel even more confident, hyaluronic fillers are fully dissolvable.  Small areas or all of the filler can be removed with a safe injection.

We offer three families of dermal fillers, Juvederm®, Restylane®, and RHA®. While all contain hyaluronic acid, they also have unique properties.

RHA®

Krauss Dermatology has been chosen as one of only a few practices in the country to offer RHA®, a popular European brand of dermal filler. The hyaluronic acid formula in RHA® more closely mimics the body’s natural hyaluronic acid and works very well in mobile locations such as the area around the mouth.

Juvederm®

With popular formulas including Voluma, Ultra and Ultra Plus that target everything from fuller cheeks to line and wrinkle removal, Juvederm® remains a popular choice for many people.

Restylane®

The Restylane® family of fillers contains formulas that address many types of lines, wrinkles, and volume enhancement, as well as the lip filler Restylane® Kysse

What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

We use dermal fillers to treat many concerns, including:

  • Facial volume loss
  • Marionette lines around the mouth
  • Nasolabial crease
  • Sunken or sagging cheeks
  • Thin lips
  • Deep lines and folds
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Irregular jawline and jowling

While some hyaluronic acid formulas have a thick, viscous texture that makes them ideal for areas like the cheeks and jawline, others have a thin, flexible formula that will hide the tiny lines above the upper lip. Each formula works best in a particular area of the face, but your Krauss dermatologist will determine which formula meets your individual needs

What Results Will I See With Dermal Fillers?

You will see some immediate plumping and lifting, with results improving over the next few days as the hyaluronic acid continues to attract moisture and add volume. You can expect that your results will last up to a year for thinner fillers and up to two years for thicker formulas. If you are not satisfied with your results, don’t worry – all HA-based dermal fillers are reversible through the use of Hyaluronidase, a bond-breaking injection that denatures the initial treatment over 48 hours.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal fillers?

Since hyaluronic acid fillers are very safe, most people make good candidates. One aspect that makes hyaluronic acid fillers an excellent choice for many paients is that if you do not like the results of your dermal filler, the dermatologist can reverse it with a simple injection.

Is There Any Downtime With Dermal Fillers?

You can go back to your usual activities when you finish treatment. You might have minor bruising or swelling, but this will go away within a few days. In addition, Krauss Dermatology offers the option of returning to the office in a day or two to treat any bruising with the Vbeam vascular laser.  This shortens the time for the bruise to resolve giving you more days to enjoy the results!!
