Looking for a smoother, more youthful appearance with no surgery or recovery time? Dermal fillers can reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles. They can also restore lost volume from areas like the cheeks or lips. These versatile injectables can help you achieve your anti-aging goals.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are FDA-approved injectable treatments used to add facial volume. They use biologically safe materials that can last in the body for months or years.

At Krauss Dermatology, all fillers are injected by our board-certified dermatologists. They provide a safe, non-surgical way to rejuvenate your skin and achieve a more lifted, youthful look.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Your dermatologist can choose from three dermal types of dermal fillers: Restylane®, Juvederm®, and the RHA® Collection. All three use a molecule called hyaluronic acid that attracts and holds hydration in the skin

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your skin, making it a safe material for use as a filler. Each type of dermal filler has a different formula that lets it work better in different areas. As a bonus, hyaluronic acid is the only rapidly reversible dermal filler: if you do not like your results, an injection of an enzyme can undo the effects.

What to Expect After Dermal Fillers

Dermal filler injections usually last about fifteen minutes. You can return to work or other activities after your appointment. Some people experience minor effects like swelling, sensitivity, or bruising. These will usually fade within a few days. You will notice increased volume immediately, and results will improve over the next few days.

These post-filler tips can help you achieve the best possible results:

  • Avoid rubbing or sleeping on your face for several hours
  • Stay hydrated
  • Avoid saunas and hot tubs to avoid swelling
  • Take Tylenol instead of NSAIDs like aspirin
  • Wait several hours before applying makeup
  • Get fillers at least a few days before an event

What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

Dermal fillers can be used in almost any area of the face to smooth lines and add volume. Popular locations for dermal fillers include

  • Lips and fine lines around the lips
  • Cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Smile lines
  • Jawline
  • Sunken acne scars

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers typically last between six months and two years. Fillers used in the lips and other flexible areas fade faster than thicker fillers used for deep lines and cheek volume.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Most people make good candidates for dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid, the most popular dermal filler material, is safe and reversible. Ideal candidates want to add or restore facial volume and soften lines.

You might not be a good candidate if you have had a reaction to dermal fillers in the past or have an infection in the treatment area.
