If you’re coping with premature hair loss or thinning hair, you’re not alone. This is a very common issue that many men and women often face. Fortunately, there is a minimally invasive solution that can change your life for the better. Here at Krauss Dermatology, we can use PRP to improve the appearance of your hair. It can give you the chance to grow fuller, thicker hair. Let’s take a closer look at what PRP is and how it can help with hair loss.

What is PRP?

The part of your blood that contains platelets, which help it clot, is known as plasma. When plasma gets isolated and concentrated, PRP is formed. By injecting PRP into damaged tissues, you can stimulate your body to grow healthy new cells and stimulate a natural healing process.

How PRP for Hair Loss Works

During a PRP for hair loss treatment, blood is drawn from your arm. It’s then placed into a centrifuge so that your red blood cells can separate from plasma. This process allows them to become further concentrated, allowing higher amounts of platelets.

Once the PRP is isolated and concentrated, one of our dermatologists will inject it into the thinning area of your scalp. The PRP will stimulate hair growth from dormant or smaller follicles so that existing hair can thicken and new hairs can grow.

PRP Consultations Available

Our dermatologists typically recommend three monthly treatments and a 4th treatment about three months later. If you’d like to maintain your desired results, we’ll ask that you return to our office every six months or so.  We also recommend topical and oral supplements that can help your hair grow and augment the results from your PRP.

There is no downtime with PRP for hair loss so you can return to work and your daily activities right away. However, we will ask that you refrain from intense physical activity, swimming, topical hair products, and dyes for 24 hours.

Good Candidates for PRP for Hair Loss

If you’re concerned about a receding hairline or thinning hair, PRP for hair loss may be a great option. In the event your hair loss is severe, we may recommend an alternative option. Additionally, our dermatologists discourage this treatment if you’re on blood thinners, immunosuppressants or similar medications.

Never been happier with my interaction and exams with Dr. Nordan. Recently had to have Moes procedure. Dr. Mosher is so professional and yest able to put someone like me who was pretty fearful, At ease. Can’t say enough about a reception staff as well.
