You don’t have time to deal with a double chin.

You’ve got a life to live. People to see. Projects to master. So when your double chin or your jowl fat doesn’t respond to your diet and exercise regimen, you know you need to find the kind of help that won’t add a burden to your schedule.

Kybella injections for double chin reduction may be the solution you’re looking for. But does it involve a hefty downtime?

Exactly how long is the recovery time with Kybella?

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA-approved injection that uses a deoxycholic acid compound to damage fat cells clustered within the submental tissue. Once damaged, these fat cells – which are often difficult to shrink through diet and exercise alone – begin to be eliminated by the body, causing the area to become noticeably smaller.

Over time and with a regimen of Kybella injections (usually around two to four treatments), patients will see noticeable fat loss underneath the chin and around the jawline. Results include a more defined jawline and improved angle of the chin and neck on profile, as well as skyrocketing confidence from finally getting rid of that stubborn double chin and pesky jowl fat!

What Kind of Downtime Should I Expect?

The treated area does swell and remain slightly tender for a week or two post treatment however most patients are able to continue with their normal routine the day after treatment.  The swelling can be camouflaged with a scarf or bandana and any bruising covered with cover-up.

As most injection treatments take about 15 minutes to perform, it’s no wonder more patients refer to Kybella as an excellent lunchtime procedure.

If you have limited ability to tolerate swelling, perhaps because you are in the public eye all the time (those Zoom meetings are rough), then consider Coolsculpting for the double chin instead.  Particularly good if there is more fat in the area, there is no swelling with Coolsculpting for submental fat.  After the initial Coolsculpting treatment, Kybella can be used to fine-tune improvement in the area.

What About Kybella Side Effects?

Here’s the deal: while Kybella doesn’t have lengthy downtime, there are some side effects that can last for a couple of weeks after your injection. These side effects may include:

  • Swelling
  • Tenderness at the injection site
  • Slight bruising
  • Temporary hardness
  • Numbness
  • Redness

Of all these side effects, swelling tends to be among the most common and annoying. The good news is that this swelling is temporary, and usually completely disappears within one to two weeks after the Kybella treatment. If your symptoms last longer than this period of time, you should contact your dermatologist.
