What is the Difference Between Dysport and Botox?

If you’re looking for a non-invasive way to smooth out your fine lines and wrinkles, you may come across Dysport and Botox. While many people believe they are essentially the same thing, there are a few noteworthy differences between these two treatments. Below, we’ll dive deeper in to the differences between Dysport and Botox.

How Dysport and Botox Work

Both Dysport and Botox are specifically formulated to soften wrinkles and frown lines. They work by limiting muscle movement at the injection site temporarily. While they are both considered type A botulinum toxins, their non-toxin protein content differs as a result of their manufacturing differences.

While results from Botox are usually visible within 3 to 5 days, it typically takes 1 to 2 days to see a noticeable improvement with Dysport. If you have an upcoming event and want to look great in time for it, we may recommend Dysport over Botox for this reason. Results with both brands last approximately the same length of time.

Dysport injections typically spread over a wider area. Botox may allow more control in specific locations given its narrower spread, however both can be used in all treatment areas.

Dysport contains cow’s milk protein so should not be used by patients allergic to cow’s milk (though fine in those with lactose intolerance).
