There are many considerations to keep in mind before going for cosmetic procedures. Below we will dive into the top 5 questions you should ask your provider before undergoing dermal filler treatment.
Common Dermal Filler Consultation Questions
Q. Am I being treated by a board certified dermatologist, plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon?
The core specialties receive specific anatomy and cosmetic training beginning in their residency and throughout their carreers in continuing education, leading to the safest most effective treatment.
Q. What kind of filler do you recommend for the areas being treated and why?
Choose an office that uses only FDA approved fillers obtained through U.S. distributors like Allergan, Galderma and Merz. Your physician should have specific fillers that work best for cheeks, and others for furrows, and still others for fine lines.
Q. Is the filler removable if I don’t like it or if there is any kind of problem with it?
Hyaluronidase is an injectable liquid that dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers into molecules normally found in the skin, which are then naturally eliminated by the body. Juvederm Voluma, Ultra plus XC, Ultra plus, Restylane Lyft, Restylane L and Silk, and Belotero are all able to be dissolved by Hyaluronidase. Any irregularity can be smoothed out, and the material removed in the rare case of significant side effect. Do not allow anyone to treat you with fillers unless they have Hyaluronidase in the office at all times. Make sure the practice has someone on call 24 hours per day and 7 days a week in case you have a problem.
Q. What are you doing to minimize bruising, and what can you do to shorten the duration of any bruise I might get?
Use of ice packs during the procedure, and the use of the cannula technique help to minimize bruising. A day or two after your injection a quick laser treatment (such as the Vbeam laser in our office) makes the bruise melt away, saving a week of visible discoloration. Make sure your treating physician has a vascular laser available to treat any bruise you may get.
Q. What are you doing to minimize my discomfort?
Using prescription strength numbing cream, utilizing ice and the cannula technique with lidocaine can all make your experience comfortable. There is no need to suffer to be beautiful!
