How Do Acne Scar Treatments Work?

Acne scar treatments are highly tailored to each individual patient, as well as to the age and pigmentation of the acne scar. However, most acne scar treatments work by directly treating the dermal layer of the skin or by targeting the darker pigmentation and redness left behind by prior acne.

At Krauss Dermatology, we offer multiple treatments for acne scarring:

During your consultation, our team will work with you to choose the best treatment option for your acne scars.

Am I a Good Candidate for Acne Scar Treatments?

You are a good candidate for acne scar treatments if you are bothered by or self-conscious about the appearance of acne scars on your face, neck, and chest, and your acne eruptions are well controlled.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

The treatment length will depend on the option you select; however, most acne scarring procedures take about 45 minutes to perform. You’ll be walked through what you can expect from the procedure. We use a combination of techniques which vary by procedure, including numbing cream, ice packs, and the Zimmer air cooler, to make sure you are comfortable during your procedure.

What Results Will I See?*

Results will depend on the acne treatment you select. Most patients can expect to see significant improvement with their acne scarring, as our treatments deliver about 50 to 60% improvement in acne scars as long as the recommended treatment plan is followed.

Is There Any Downtime?

Most acne scar treatments require very little downtime, so you can return to your normal routine quickly. As with all skin treatments, you will need to wear sunscreen to protect your newly sensitive skin. Some patients experience minor redness and tenderness directly after treatment; these side effects typically fade after a few days.
