The formation of fine lines and wrinkles is a natural part of aging. Dynamic lines, which occur when your facial features move, can appear early but eventually turn into static wrinkles that last even when your features are relaxed. Botox® and other neuromodulators Dysport® and Daxxify® smooth lines and wrinkles for a more relaxed, youthful appearance

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Botox® is an injectable treatment used to treat expression lines and wrinkles. These include forehead lines, crow’s feet, and glabellar lines between the brows. Botox® uses botulinum toxin, which temporarily stops nerves from telling muscles to contract. As the skin relaxes, your wrinkles improve and stop progressing.

What Should I Expect During a Botox® Treatment?

Your Botox® injections usually take about fifteen minutes. You may feel minor pinching during the injections, but many people feel almost nothing. The amount of Botox® injected depends on the area of your face and your injecting dermatologist’s aesthetic judgment. All Botox® injections at Krauss Dermatology are performed by board-certified dermatologists for a better experience and attractive, natural-looking results.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® results can take up to ten days to develop fully. Once established, your results will usually last three to four months or longer when treated over time. Some people who have Botox® regularly see results that last five months or more. Each person’s body responds to Botox® differently, so we will work with you to develop a schedule that keeps your results looking smooth and refreshed. If your neuromodulator does not last the expected interval, a change to another brand may help.  Dysport® and Daxxify® each have their subtle differences from Botox®, varying in how their effect spreads over the treated area, and how long they may last in certain locations.

What is the Best Age to Start Botox®?

This question often arises when people in their 30s become concerned about expression lines and wrinkles. Individuals at this age can relax frown lines and other wrinkles, helping them look rejuvenated. People with more significant wrinkles can still see dramatic improvements. Some people choose to start Botox® as young as their late 20s as a preventative measure. The best age for Botox® depends on your goals, genetics, sun exposure, and many other factors. A good rule of thumb is to think about a neurotoxin if a line in an area of concern is becoming visible at rest.  It is normal to be able to frown, even children do!  But if in your relaxed state, there is a slight crease visible, you may consider one of these safe, effective, and time-proven treatments.

Do I Need Botox® or Dermal Fillers?

Botox® and dermal fillers are injectable treatments that can address lines and wrinkles. Some people will benefit from one or the other, while some people may need both. These treatments address different kinds of wrinkles. While Botox® treats wrinkles caused by facial motions, dermal fillers restore volume to address wrinkles caused by skin laxity, sun damage, and sagging. Between the eyebrows, Botox® is the safest and best option.  Smile lines on the cheeks are almost always a filler issue.  However, it is best to consult us in person or virtually to determine what is best to use where!

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Botox® has been widely used for decades for medical and aesthetic purposes. Good candidates are healthy adults with reasonable expectations. Candidates typically want to treat or prevent expression lines and wrinkles. Only a consultation can determine whether you will benefit from Botox®. You should not have treatment if you have an infection or active skin condition in the area, or if you have any medical conditions causing muscle weakness such as Myasthenia Gravis.
