When most people think of wrinkle injections, the word Botox typically comes to mind first. This is no surprise as Botox has been approved by the FDA since 2002. Recently, however, Jeuveau came into the picture in 2019 and also offers great anti-aging results without surgery. So, is Jeuveau better than Botox? Let’s dive deeper into the answer to this very common question.

Jeuveau Boston

How Botox and Jeuveau Work

During a Botox or Jeuveau treatment, you can expect a dermatologist to gently inject the neuromodulator into your muscles. The formula will block the nerve impulses that lead to muscle movement and wrinkles. If you have dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines or crow’s feet that appear every time you express yourself, these treatments can help. They can help you look youthful and relaxed with minimal disruption to your life.

These treatments are only about 15 minutes long, painless and come with no downtime. You’ll be free to resume work and your daily responsibilities right away. Since Botox and Jeuveau do not deliver permanent results, you will want to return to our office for maintenance treatments that keep you looking and feeling your best.

Jeuveau & Botox Consultations Available

Jeuveau vs. Botox

Jeuveau and Botox have many similarities. However, there are a few noteworthy differences between them. Unlike Botox, which is FDA approved for treating headaches, eyelid spasms, excessive underarm sweating, and other medical conditions, Jeuveau is only for aesthetic use. In addition, Botox is FDA approved for the cosmetic treatment of the glabellar (frown) lines, crows feet, and forehead lines.  Over 100 million vials of Botox have been sold. Jeuveau was specifically formulated for cosmetic purposes and is approved for cosmetic improvement of glabellar (frown) lines, with other cosmetic areas able to be treated off label.

Since both Jeuveau and Botox treatments have the same goal of smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, we can help you determine which one is the better option for your unique aesthetic goals and preferences. Often times, we’ll recommend Botox as we believe it’s the gold standard for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles since its approval for aesthetic use in 2002.

Good Candidates for Jeuveau and Botox

If you are concerned with moderate to severe wrinkles, Botox and Jeuveau can be a good fit.  Both treatments are similar in cost and longevity so the ideal treatment for you will depend on your personal preferences. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neuromuscular condition, our dermatologists do not recommend these treatments.

“I have been seeing Dr. Krauss for probably eight years and my boys all see other doctors in the practice. They are thorough, nice, timely, have a great staff, and really keep our skin looking great. If you are curious about cosmetic procedures they offer everything under the sun and never push you to do things. Highly recommended.” *
