Most of us have features we would like to enhance or wrinkles we would like to smooth. However, surgical procedures come with risks and a recovery period. Dermal fillers let you target many of your facial concerns with minimal impact on your daily activities. These injectable treatments are a safe, natural-looking way to achieve your goals. They are even reversible!

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injected into areas of your skin and subcutaneous tissue to enhance volume. They are frequently used to address areas like:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Cheek and jawline volume loss
  • Thin lips and lip lines
  • Deeper furrows like the nasolabial folds (nose to corner of mouth( or “marionette” lines (corner of mouth down)

Dermal fillers can be used in many other areas, depending on where you need added volume. Some people use dermal fillers to address signs of aging, but others use them to enhance naturally hollow cheeks or thin lips. Dermal fillers are one of the most popular anti-aging treatments due to their convenience and natural-looking results.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers come in many formulas. Your Krauss Dermatology team uses hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is the most widely used and tested filler material. It is found naturally in your skin, where it attracts moisture and adds volume. We offer the following families of fillers:

This variety allows us to offer the best wrinkle, cheek, and lip fillers. Hyaluronic acid can form cross-links that change its properties, making cheek fillers more dense and durable, while lip fillers are more flexible for a natural look.

Is There Any Downtime After Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are popular for many reasons, including their minimal downtime. You may have minor bruising or swelling at the injection sites, but this fades within a day or two.  We differ from many practices by having a laser (the V-beam) that can be used on bruising to make it resolve in a day or two instead of the normal, longer time course. This revolutionizes the post filler experience for our easy bruisers. We are also experienced with the cannula technique as well as the needle technique for fillers.  This allows us to minimize bruising for many injection areas.  For best results, follow instructions provided by your dermatologist. All injections at Krauss Dermatology are provided by board-certified dermatologists, minimizing side effects and ensuring excellent results.

How Long Do Dermal Filler Results Last?

Each dermal filler has a different lifespan. Fillers used for the cheeks or deep wrinkles tend to last longer than lip fillers. Most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers last one to two years. Lip fillers last up to one year, and cheek and jawline fillers can last up to two years. Maintain your results with good skincare and consistent sun protection.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are well-tolerated by almost anyone. Good candidates should have reasonable expectations and goals. Ideal candidates want to achieve a more defined or youthful appearance. Unlike other dermal fillers, a quick injection can undo hyaluronic acid filler results if there is a slight lump or bump, or in the rare  instance that you do not like them or have a rare reaction. You should not have dermal filler injections if you have an active infection, dental cleaning, dental work, or vaccination within 2 weeks before or after your filler.
