Even if you take good care of your skin, expression lines and wrinkles will still develop. Your facial expressions cause your muscles to pull your skin into folds and creases. Botox® can target facial muscles to smooth away lines and wrinkles. You can look younger and more relaxed in one short treatment.

At Krauss Dermatology, Botox® is administered only by board-certified dermatologists. We are a widely recognized leader in Botox® and have performed thousands of treatments with excellent results. Our physicians have repeatedly been judged “Best of Boston” by Boston Magazine and also among the Top 50 Cosmetic Dermatologists in the United States by Newsweek Magazine in 2022.

What is Botox®?

Smiles, frowns, and other facial expressions pull your skin, causing it to wrinkle. Over time, these wrinkles last even when your face stops moving. Botox® smooths away these lines by stopping the muscle activity that creates them.  When injected into the facial muscles, Botox® targets the nerves that control them. It stops the nerves from releasing signals. As a result, the muscle stops contracting, and the skin can relax. You can see a youthful, relaxed appearance starting within a few days of your injections and reaching full result in 2 weeks. Botox must be properly injected to achieve the perfect balance in relaxing some muscles causing furrows and drooping and leaving the movement of those muscles that lift and improve appearance.

How Much Do Botox® Injections Cost?

Some providers charge for Botox® by the unit, while others charge by facial area. Factors that will affect your cost include:

  • Your location
  • Provider’s Botox® pricing
  • Treatment area
  • Amount of Botox® needed

At Krauss Dermatology treatment generally costs between $475 (for example to the area between the brows or the crows feet) and $875 (for the combination of frown lines, forehead, crows feet). Visit us for an accurate estimate based on our assessment of your treatment needs.

Remember, Botox and other neuromodulators like Dysport, are like paint that is used to make a painting.  It is a tool that can be used beautifully or badly. It should be injected by an expert physician to avoid complications like a drooping eyelid or drooping eyebrows or asymmetrical lips.  An excellent injector can truly make you look your absolute best and achieve results not possible by a novice or medspa mill.  And Botox is a medical procedure and should never be injected in a hair salon or at a party!

What Can Botox® Treat?

Botox® can be used in more facial locations than most people realize. You can have Botox® to treat:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines between the brows
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Lip lines
  • Chin dimples
  • Drooping mouth corners
  • Vertical bands in the neck

Botox® also has many FDA approved medical uses. It can treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraines, muscle spasms, vocal cord problems and many other conditions.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?

Botox® results start to become visible within a few days with full results in 2 weeks. You will notice your expression lines becoming smoother and your face looking more relaxed. Botox® results usually last three to four months or longer with continued treatments. A few procedures a year can keep you looking younger and smoother for the foreseeable future. A skilled injector like one of our dermatologists will give you results that look naturally youthful, never fake or overdone.

Is There Downtime With Botox®?

Botox® treatments only take a few minutes. You can return to your usual routine afterward but we recommend waiting to exercise (walking is o.k.) until the next day. Some people notice small bruises, tiny red spots, or slight soreness in the injection area. These usually go away in a day or two.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Most people make good candidates for Botox® however treatment works best if initiated before the age of 65. It has been used for decades with an excellent safety record. You should not have Botox® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also not recommended for those with certain medical conditions causing muscle weakness such as myasthenia gravis.
