What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are designed for injection into the skin to boost volume. They can reduce signs of aging or enhance your facial features.

What are Dermal Fillers Made Of?

At Krauss Dermatology, we prefer hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers material. A large molecule found naturally in your skin, HA attracts and holds moisture. This property makes HA popular as a skincare ingredient and a dermal filler. HA can also form long chains and cross-links that allow it to perform different functions. As it breaks down, the molecules released are identical to the normal hyaluronic acid in the dermis of your skin, adding moisture.

Types of Dermal Fillers

We offer three families of dermal fillers. Each excels for different applications, letting your dermatologist choose the formula that will work best for your individual needs. All these fillers use HA in different formulations. Most HA fillers last between six months and two years, depending on the type.

Juvederm®

This popular family of dermal fillers treats structurally for  improvement in cheeks, chin and jaw. It also offers fillers for deep lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, and others for lips and mouth lines.

Restylane®

These HA fillers add volume to the mid-face area, smooth fine lines, and soften deep creases and folds. They can also enhance the lips while providing a natural-looking appearance.

RHA®

This European dermal filler is only available from a select providers in the USA. Krauss Dermatology is proud to offer these advanced HA fillers. Their formula most closely mimics natural HA for smoothly blended, natural-looking results excellent in areas of movement like the mouth area and lips.

Dermal Fillers Consultations Available

How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost?

Dermal filler costs will vary depending on your location and your chosen provider. Most of our dermal fillers cost $675 for your first syringe though some longer lasting formulas cost slightly more. Additional syringes during the same visit are reduced by $100. The number of syringes needed depends on the treatment areas and your particular facial characteristics. A consultation will let us assess your needs and give you an accurate estimate.

Is There Downtime With Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers do not require any downtime. You can resume most of your usual activities immediately however we ask that you hold off on exercise (except walking) until the next day. You may notice minor bruising and swelling that lasts a few days. For many people, laser treatment a day or two after the injections can shorten the duration of any bruising that occurs. Please avoid having fillers within 2 weeks before or after any vaccination, any dental procedure including cleaning and Covid 19 infection.

Bruising is common with dermal fillers.  At Krauss Dermatology we are able to minimize the time it takes for bruising to go away with the use of our vascular laser.  This makes the most of your filler while minimizing the inconvenience of injections.  More severe side effects are very rare, however these need to be handled quickly by experienced MDs if they occur.  Fillers should only be performed in a medical setting by experts.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

HA is a biologically safe molecule, and reactions are rare. Good candidates should have no infections or irritation in the treatment area. You may not be a good candidate if you have had reactions to HA products in the past or have history of severe allergies (anaphylaxis).
