FAQs GlacialRx

What is the GlacialRx?

GlacialRx is the first device that uses patented cooling to remove brown spots from the sun and flat age spots with minimal downtime. These can be treated on any area of the body. The full freeze/peel treatment, which is done to the face, also helps to improve skin brightness and hydration, decreases redness and inflammation, and is safe for most skin types.

What does the GlacialRx treatment entail?

The full GlacialRx treatment utilizes a relaxing multistep process that takes about 45 to 60 minutes. In the first step the cooling applicator will be placed on each targeted brown spot and a freezing process will take place (16 seconds per spot). A gentle chemical peel will be applied and massaged into the skin with a cooling massage applicator–this helps to exfoliate the skin and increase efficacy of the freeze. A mist is then applied to the skin and massaged using a second cold applicator with a rougher surface which acts as a mild microdermabrasion and helps to slough off the treated brown spots. Finally, several antioxidant based topicals will be massaged into the skin with the smooth cold applicator tip to help to reduce redness/inflammation. You will leave the office with a little “goodie bag” comprised of a cream for the spot treated areas and a serum to aid in skin brightening.

What are the side effects?

There is a mild stinging sensation during the freezing process which quickly resolves. During the peel portion, there may be some mild tingling or itching. The treated brown spots will be pink initially and then darken for a few days to a week and then flake off. Side effects may include: lightening or darkening of the skin (particularly in the spot treated areas) or temporary redness or itching. Some treated spots will not completely resolve and will need further treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

For best results we recommend a minimum of 2 treatments spaced at least 1 month apart. More stubborn age spots may require more than 2 freeze treatments which can be performed with or without the full peel process.

What do I need to do to maintain my results?

The best way to maintain results is to protect your skin from the sun (UV protective hats, SPF 30+) especially for 4-6 weeks after the treatment. At home products containing AHAs (glycolic, lactic, mandelic), retinoids, and pigment reducing ingredients can also be beneficial. Talk to one of our aesthetic coordinators for choosing the best at home products for your skin.
